This week, progress was made on both the NAVI device hardware and the accompanying design report. Using the feedback from Dr. Ejaz and the report rubric, I expanded the document’s structure—including updated chapters 1, 2, and 4—while refining the table of contents, list of figures, and list of tables. Custom headers and footers were also added for consistency and professionalism.
On the hardware side, I completed the design of Front-Plate V6 and Faceplate V6, incorporating new 14 mm diameter pass-through holes to route wiring for the IR sensors and haptic motors outside the enclosure. The front-plate was additionally redesigned to secure the USB-C charger more reliably by integrating a reinforced vertical housing. The faceplate was updated with flush-fit slots for the headband and matching 14 mm wiring channels. To support these changes, I designed and printed two tubular TPU FlexiTough cable plugs for the side openings and lengthened the two side moutning inserts for the headstrap.
During assembly with Anthony, we discovered that the battery and wiring harness were pressing into the enclosure due to limited internal clearance. In response, both the frontplate and faceplate models were lengthened by 15 mm to ensure proper spacing for all internal components. This required additional CAD adjustments—using lofts, extrusions, and fillets—to restore printability without modifying any major functional features. The side plug inserts were also reprinted in their revised geometry to match the updated enclosure. I shortened the internal brim after determining it interfered with the push buttons and USB-C charging port. The updated frontplate, side inserts, and plugs was successfully printed. The modified faceplate failed during printing as the STL file in the slicing portion of the creality print software showed no solid structure near the nose and only provided supports.
On the website documentation side, I corrected three monetary tracking sheets to fix pricing and specification errors, entered and formatted last week’s meeting minutes for the website, and continued preparing the report whilst waiting for information on software development and algorithms for the finalization of chapter 2 on the report.
